I'm sure you are all aware of the following:

2 U.S. soldiers killed in attack in Fallujah

Vivienne Walt USA TODAY

BAGHDAD -- Iraqi gunmen opened fire on U.S. soldiers Tuesday, killing two servicemembers and injuring nine others in the deadliest single attack on U.S. forces since May 1, when President Bush (news - web sites) said major combat operations were over.

Growing dissatisfaction with the pace of restoring order and re-establishing services is prompting an increasing number of protests in Baghdad, though they have remained peaceful.

The problem I am having is that the news sources only seem to be reporting the nasty stuff and the delays going on. They are making it seem as though nothing is getting done and we are just letting our young servicemembers sit out there like targets in a shooting gallery for any fanatic that wants to go to heaven early. The thought of that is deeply disturbing to me. sad.gif

Are there any news services that are reporting what is being concretely accomplished in Iraq on a daily basis? So far to me it looks like a confused meandering mess where no one seems to know what they are susposed to be doing, and every day that goes by is another opportunity for a fanatic to kill one of our servicememebers. mad.gif

Well, I'm sure you understand that the media always emphasizes the negative news. You never hear of all the good that's being done, be it humanitarian relief, infrastructure repair, security, civil authority, etc. etc.

But progress is being made on a daily basis. Northern and Southern Iraq are quite stable, and the situation is improving in the central region. Bremer is a no-nonsense administrator, and in a curious contradiction, the civilian has proved to be a more strict and demanding occupier than the retired general (Garner).

However, as it has been stressed many times before, this is a difficult journey and more of our people will die. We have to be prepared for that. We're in this for the long haul.
