In Publisher's Weekly there is a very good interview with Rick Bragg the author of the Jessica Lynch Story.
Bragg says that Jessi "doesn't look at her situation as a political situation". She looks at it as a personal situation involving sacrifice and loss, great sadness, but also pride. She is proud that she was a soldier. And she will forever know the cost."
The article is in www.publishersweekly.reviewsnews.com.

All interviews will be taped at her home due to her "still-fragile" condition. The family chose Rick Bragg because they had read his book "All Over But The Shoutin'. I agree it was a great book.

The Jessica Lynch Story is certain to be a best seller however, I do not think this will be the last word from Jessica. She may appear to be the sweet girl from the house next door but in my heart I feel that she is still a diamond in the rough. As she matures with the influence of a college education, we may hear more about this scrappy kid. She just might be a real life Ann of Green Gables.

Thanks Lanieer 416.
That was a great article. Most encouraging is the quote:
QUOTE
The retail response in one day has been phenomenal.
And I can't resist this one:
QUOTE
In my experience, wars are fought almost always by sons and daughters of working people. These are people who fight and die and serve their country, and they deserve some good attention, something beyond the sneers of intellectuals. Rick Bragg

With that kind of insight and the "wonderful story to tell" it can't miss. Also, publication date is to be on Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

Hay the new Ann of Green Gables was my Idea. You could write a whole series on this one. Country girl wants to be a teacher gets in the Army before 9-11 ends up in a war. Gets in a big fire fight. Gets captured and saved by some Iraqies amost killed serval times and saved by special forces. In hospital badly injured and is saved again by boyfriend Rubin who will now take her away from all this. What more of a story could you want.

This is sure to make the Opra book review.

Patience2,
That was also my favorite quote from Rick Bragg "something beyond the sneer of intellectuals." That's why I was so pleased to see that the Lynch family had chosen Bragg to write her book. They felt "Jessica's story would be safe in his hands." I believe it will also.

Also thank you Soprano84 for posting the complete link. I am a novice when dealing with computers at times.

Yes the idea of comparing Jessica to the adventures of Ann was yours and a great idea it was. I for one would like to keep this comparison alive. Like the adventures of Ann, Jessica's story is heart warming to say the least. The story of Jessica is like reading a girl scout handbook with all the corniness removed. who's heart would not be lifted by the comments and the photos of Jessica, her family, and the people or Wirt county? But then again there are obviously those who express a very different view.

For what it is worth I truley enjoy checking into this site and I hope it never closes. Good people leave their comments here.

Lynch Will Give Portion of Book Money to Charity
by Karen Holt, PW Newsline -- 9/10/2003
BreakingNews >

Jessica Lynch and Rick Bragg aren't the only ones who stand to benefit from their million-dollar book deal with Knopf.
"Before the contract was signed, before any money changed hands, Jessica Lynch stipulated that a portion of the proceeds from her book be paid to charity," says Knopf spokesperson Paul Bogaards. "At her request, we are keeping the nature and amount of this contribution private. It will be made public at a later date."

Bogaards defends Lynch, who has come under criticism for benefiting from the war since the announcement last week that she and Bragg would split a million-dollar advance for I Am A Soldier Too, which Knopf will publish in November. "There are always a handful of people who will rush to judgment about a book or an author or an advance or a story line," Bogaards says. "This usually says more about the people advancing the criticism than those receiving it."

He confirms that Knopf has gotten e-mails complaining about the Lynch deal, but adds, "the mail we have received has been overwhelmingly positive. In a war that continues to deliver bad news, this is a story with a happy ending."

You'll recall that last week Randy Kiehl, father of slain Army Spc. James Kiehl, of Comfort, Texas, made the media rounds complaining that Lynch was making money off the death of his son and others who died during the fighting in Iraq.

Of course, by going from battle to book contract, Lynch belongs to a long tradition of soldiers. It's unclear if her critics object to the advances and royalties given to, for example, generals Norman Schwarzkopf and Colin Powell, or Jarhead author and former U.S. marine Anthony Swofford.

Wow Soprano, thank you for posting this, and yes, you beat Jessefan, smile.gif, this is unreal, I told all of you Jessi was something else, it's called "class", it can't be taught, you either have it or don't, she has it.

This hopefully will shut the pundits and critics up, she has a story to tell and wants to tell it, it has nothing to do with money. Have you ever in your liv smile.gif es seen a family handle notoriety like the Lynch's?
