Apparently Jessica and her family are pretty savy (or at least are getting good advise) on how to negociate with a big organization like NBC. Good for them.

No movie co-operation...great! Obviously, the Lynch family is receiving good legal advise. Since Jessica is the product she has to control everything related to the product and with the Hollywood types that would not be possible. A book deal would give Jessica certain legal protections to control the use of her material.

Some people have already suggested somebody else is going to write the book for her...don't believe it. Jessica can talk til She's blue in the face into a tape recorder or she can type her thoughts onto her lap-top computer. A good writer will help Jessica organize and edit the material into good prose. Jessica has had a lot of time to think about this book...she has a story she wants to tell and she will tell it...her way. There is no other way. The book is going to be a best seller.

Private Lynch also faced complications from her obligation to the military. Under the Army's ethics code she would not be permitted to make a financial deal until her term of service officially ends. That may come in the next week or two, one executive involved in the deal said.

That article just gave us some other information. It looks like her discharge is coming a lot sooner that six months from the start of her treatment. I read elsewhere that six months was the average time it took to get a medical discharge.

CORRECTION: I have just heard the average time for a med discharge is actually thirty day. The six months was something I saw in the press which, true to form, is incorrect.

Although she cannot prevent people writing unauthorised books and making unauthorised films about her - if or when she signs a contract there are things she can stipulate.

YOu often hear of actresses having no nudity clauses, or celebrities having the final say on an interview article in a magazine, etc. I am sure??? that PFC Lynch can have something similar.

That she has the final say written into her contract, I don't know what the legal term is, so that if there is something they want to do that she doesn't like - she can say "no" and they have to go along with that.

If she doesn't have this clause written into her contract even if she doesn't like something, legally they can do it anyway.

Jessica and her family are taking all the talk about movie and movie deals in stride and not concerning themselves about these things quite yet. Jessica and her family are approaching the networks and book publishers and letting them know that Jessica will dictate "how" and "when" her story is to be told. Unfortunately, but not suprisingly, NBC is going ahead with it's plans to make a TV movie about Jessica and her ordeal, WITHOUT her permission. BUT, that's the world we live in!!

Good points. Also, retaining film rights until after her book is published is better for Pfc. Lynch financialy. Movie rights to best selling books tend to earn much more than rights to stories not yet published. Also, regarding the co-writer: the fact that the writer mentioned is Rick Bragg, formerly an investigative reporter with the NY Times could mean his primary role will be to put together the portions if the story Pfc. Lynch cannot remember herself.
