This article was just posted on U.S. News and World Report's site; it has interviews with Jessica, Shoshana, and Pat Miller on how they're going five years after that day in Nasiriya and how they've dealt with their status as ex-POWs. A few tidbits: Jessica felt her trip to testify before Congress was the hardest thing she's ever done, and that she has surgeries three times a year on her injured foot, and may have to lose a toe because the brace on her left leg has caused a wound to not fully heal. Pat Miller is now a Staff Sergeant, and has repeatedly requested a second tour in Iraq, but Pentagon policy prevents former POWs from deploying to the same combat zone where they were captured. And Shoshana is still in El Paso, going to college and finding out that not too many guys want to go out with an ex-POW.

Here's the article to download.

Very interesting article about Jessica, Patrick, and Shoshana. I wonder how the other POW's are doing? I have said it many times, but it remains just as true today as it has over the years since their rescues. One can have nothing but respect and admiration for the POWs and how they have handled their lives and medical situations over the years. They have managed to adapt to and overcome so much adversity. People who send Jessica hate mail have absolutely no basis for their criticism!! I would like to see how the critics of Jessica would handle themselfs if they were in the same situation as she!?

Me, too, Maiz. But it's the hero thing that was so trumped up before and those haters probably still want to believe. Most, if not all, are probably true cowards.

Thanks for the link Matt. Quite interesting. I had not seen it on the Us.News site earlier.

That was pretty disgusting about Shoshana's book deal canceled because the publishers wanted a religious book out of it. God, religions make me sick. But it was hilarious to learn how no guys can handle her because she was a pow..lol..

It is a shame that some people still blame Jessi without just cause. There are some people in the Army who weren't told the truth and blame Jessi as well. However, I know that while Jessi didn't fight to the last bullet, she did act heroically....it was just after her capture and while she fiercely resisted her captors that Jessi's heroism was evident. It is a shame that due to politics that the Pentagon will not allow her to tell the real story.....but I know it.

Just seven more days before I am due to redeploy from Iraq. Please keep my wife in your prayers. She has been having some major health problems including learning a few days ago that she may have breast cancer. Thank you.

Sadly, it doesn't surprise me that Jessi still recieves a few pieces of hate mail from warped idiots. You'd be shocked what isolated sickos sometimes leave on the Caring Bridge sites of my young friends who are cancer patients. Can anyone imagine the twisted and sick mentality of anyone cold enough to mock a 10 or 12 year old leukemia patient? It would take someone evil beyond belief sad.gif

I'm sure Jessica doesn't let it get her down; just takes the hate mail from the source it comes from......cowardly morons who aren't worth the time of day.

God bless you guys....and Jerry, I'm remembering you and your wife in my prayers!
