Dear Jessica,

I don't know if you will ever see this message but it's worth a try. I am a fellow soldier. I am a Military Police Officer in the Army Reserve. I remember when you were MIA and there was coverage all over the news. My company was being mobilized at the time and we watched the news in hopes that you were okay. As I watched, I could only imagine the terror you must have felt and the feelings your family felt. I remember when I was a nineteen year old PFC and I would imagine myself in your situation.

My company was sent to Baghdad in May. We were lucky. We came back with everyone we took over there. We had 9 Purple Hearts, myself included, from numerous IED attacks. Of course, none of our injuries put together could ever equal yours. There were many scary situations there in Baghdad, something people who were never there will never understand. Let the
American people criticize you. Let them talk. Only you know what you did over there.

I think about how you lost your bestfriend over there and my heart really goes out to you. There is nothing I can say that would make you feel better. The only thing I know to say is that I have a bestfriend in my unit and I can only imagine the feelings I would have felt had I lost her over there. While I was there, I used to have nightmares about my team dying and me being the only one left. In those dreams it always felt like it was my fault that they were dead because I was supposed to look out for them. But mine are only dreams, yours are real. Like I've said before, I can only imagine the things you feel.

I really want you to know that you and your family are in my prayers. I think about y'all a lot. I hope that you will have a good and happy life because after the hell you went through you deserve it. May all your dreams come true.

Sincerely,
Lauren
