I received the following email:

Norman,

I too am very anxious to see updated photos of Jessica or hear updates on her condition. But because I respect her so much I can be patient and let her and her family decide when the best time is. Really, what's the rush? If she is to be remembered as an American hero in history, what are a few weeks compared to 'history'? We'll have her forever, let her have herslf for a few more weeks.

Greg, I can add something here. I recieved an email the other night--I cannot disclose the name, but it was legit...I checked it out. I also deleted the email address...because the Lynch family wants privacy. That email is how I learned some things I was being told by a "close friend" wasn't true, and the lady not a friend. That's also how I know Jessica's family has seen this website/forum and my website (the exact quote was "nice site", and for me to keep up the good work).

To Norman...number one, her family has the perfect right to hide her, keep her out of public view. Jessie is THEIR daughter. I told the individual that emailed me I understood perfectly....I've been there. The top priority for Gregary and Dee is their daughter getting well...the same as my family was when my stepsister was critically injured in an accident at age 20. If anyone had demanded access to her, take a photograph...I would have been livid (probably would have knocked their head off). She is MY sister...and nothing would be allowed to hurt her, hinder her recovery, or make her cry.

I got the feeling reading the email that Jessica was injured worse than the media is reporting, and was in no shape for a press conference. The reports I recieved about Jessica's emotional state are bogus - because the person I heard the info from from was bogus. These people clamoring for information, access, and photographs have no idea what kind of harm it could cause Jessica if allowed.

There is a reason Secret Service agents accompanied Jessica's family to Walter Reed (although I don't know why). There is a reason Jessica isn't even being allowed to see her grandparents yet (per media reports), EVEN a month after her rescue.

People...before you send a clueless email to Greg or me....STOP and THINK. Have you ever had a family member in the hospital? I mean in serious condition...after a car wreck or fall from a horse? Now imagine it was your own daughter. Jessica isn't Pfc Lynch to her mother and dad, nor is she a soldier or hero -- she is their little girl....she's suffered, is in pain, probably still has IV's in her arm; still wears casts on both legs, a foot, an arm. She underwent foot surgery only a week ago...and is recovering from a back injury that nearly paralyzed her. She's probably still having nightmares about what happened....still probably emotional about her ordeal, may be grieving over friends lost.

Please have some compassion, patience, and give these good folks a break. Stop acting as if Jessica is a pop diva with a sprained ankle. Let her recover....give the Lynch family the very same respect and courtesy they'd give you if your daughter were in the hospital recovering from a serious injury or illness.

Thanks and God bless,
Perry

This is the part of the E that gets me.
First off, I think Normy has way too much time on his hands. And by saying the American public is "not happy",..Where has he been?? Also, he makes it sound as if the Lynch Family owes him something. They don't OWE us ANYTHING! As I recall, they've already said "Thanks" for our thoughts and prayers. That's more than enough. Besides, I'm sure Mom and Dad know what's best.Unlike you, and your friends at the "American Public Bar & Grill" they have other things on thier mind.Let them be. And don't be so damn selfish. Just wish her and her family the best.

Well said zacc1!! Jessie Lynch is their daughter. They know what condition she is in. Ron Young, Jr is quoted in today's Douglas County Sentinel newspaper as saying "my 22 days as a POW were hell...I was beaten and taunted. Several times I thought we were all dead". He's uninjured...a career Army pilot, 26 years old, is a big guy (6'4"- 190)--looks like an NFL QB, and admits he's having nightmares, doesn't want to be in big crowds, camera flashes make him jump...even lightning flashes. Ron says he can't stand a loud noise anymore.

Jessica suffered very serious injuries...just celebrated her 20th birthday, and only weighs 110 lbs. Can anyone imagine her emotional state? I can...because I saw a small sample with my own little sister.
Horrible nightmares at 4 a.m., crying uncontrollably, her shaking like a leaf, holding onto me and our grandmother...begging us not to leave her, not to let her go. She was 19 years old, about the same size as Jessica...and is neither a coward or a crybaby...my sis has good nerves.

Folks like Norman need to understand..Jessica Lynch isn't well yet. She'll be wearing casts on her legs, ankle, and foot well into May, possibly into early June. None of us know how much emotional and psychological damage was done. If Ron Young, Jr is an indication...it may be a long time before Jessie feels comfortable having a camera flash in her face or being in a large crowd of well wishers.

I'm just like most here....I can't wait to see Jessica's beaming smile in a hero photo spread (feature story) in People or Newsweek magazine; or on a televison enterview. I'd love to see her sitting on a float waving to well wishers and friends along a parade route -- but it's not going to happen for a while...not this July 4th anyway.

If you really care about Jessica Lynch, you'll understand fully what she's going through and allow her time to heal and recover....and understand her mother and dad know much more about her than you or I.

The root cause for the content of Norman L. Porter's message seems to be his complete ignorance of the situation. Has he even bothered to read anything about Jessica's medical condition immediately after her rescue?

As I recall, during one CENTCOM briefing a reporter asked about Jessica's condition. The spokesman responded with, "Well, the good news is that she's alive." When the best news about her condition is that she's alive, you can infer that she was pretty messed up. In fact, after reading of her injuries on the night of April 1, I was not completely confident that she would survive.

I myself would love to see a snapshot of her to see how she's doing, but if her family doesn't want it happen, that's fine. Jessica was/is gravely injured. Chances are, if I was in the hospital with spinal injuries, 2 broken legs, a broken arm, head lacerations, bullet wounds, and God knows what else, I wouldn't be too comfortable with having my picture seen by hundreds of millions of people.

YOu know however that before this happened if I told u the name PFC Jessica Lynch, you would say WHO? She is a star only because of what happenend nothing more. Further More she is a young woman, she needs her own privacy. Let the poor girl heal and thats that. Its pointless to fight over something that is our of our hands. Jessica is an adult and when she feels the time is right to talk she will. But right now I agree with Perry, she prolly is still in a great deal of pain, I have broken bones before, as all of us, now multiply that time 3 subtract by 7 add 9 and thats how much pain she is suffering. In all honesty if I were Jessie I would hide myself from the media totally. The girl deserves the right to get well, and not have to live out her recovery on or in front of a camera. I commend her parents for protecting her.

I want to see her as much as you all do, she deserves her peace and quiet though. if I was in her situation and someone attemped to shove a camera in my face, not only would I be ticked, but my parents would as well.

I dont in any way mean to offend anyone on this forum because I truly feel that this will drive Jessie to push that extra step harder towards a full recovery. I will continue to pray for her as well as work on my idea in which she inspired me to do.

I`m sure once she gets on her feet she will talk to us all.

Jessie Again get well soon, get on ur feet and get back to your cheerful self, that we see in all the pictures!!!!

I think we shall all see her soon enough. When she goes home to West Virginia, there are going to be all sorts of specials, I bet. I agree that, without being too invasive of privacy and the time to heal (God, what major bone in her body was not shot up or broken during her ordeal?), it would be a great thing to see her smiling and waving, that she is ok, that she knows the world loves her, to see her in front of a birthday cake on this birthday that she almost never saw, but so be it. The army is probably putting the clamps on everything, for reasons not easily fathomed. If only her close family can visit her, you know it's them. I agree with whoever said it that Poor Jessica's injuries, body and soul, are probably much worse than have been reported. But still she's the first pow liberated from behind enemy lines since WWII and the first woman pow to ever be liberated....just kidding:)

I am not so selfless. I have to admit I would have sold my story to the highest bidder in a heartbeat and used anyone who stood in my way as my stepping stone to the stars. But, then I'm short sighted, materialistic, greedy, superficial, somewhat narcissistic, less than heroic and quite the braggart.

Jessica appears to be none of these things. She is everything I'm not and a lot of what I'd like to be. The more she, through her family, demonstrates her savor-faire, careful thought, caring attitude and modest aspirations, the more I realize just what a heroine really is. I don't need to see her in public, to know that she appreciates all the gifts, well wishes, accolades and prayers she has received, or that she cares enough about others to ask for those things to be given to the others she believes more deserving than she. She won't admit she's a heroine, and that only serves to increase her stature in my mind.

If she prefers never to appear in public, I'll applaud that decision. She has an air of greatness about her, that requires no proclamation nor public display. God bless her, whatever her decision.

I've seen this mentioned at least once before. While I was startled to see so many of the MIBs wink.gif around Lynch, I supposed they were probably civilian investigators. After all, there are investigations into the ambush of 507th Maintenance and of the war crimes committed against the POWs.

Good points about her recovery. May it be swift and complete. smile.gif

We are all eager to see Jessica back on her feet and to hear from her. Just be patient and it will happen. I just saw a report on ESPN that some Nascar drivers visiting injured soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center paid a visit to Jessica. They were the first visitors she had seen other than her family. Washigton Redskins and Baltimore Ravens players had visited inhured troops recently but she did not see them. She is starting to recieve these special VIP visitors now, so that is a sign that she is getting stronger and healing. Keep in mind that Jessica, her doctors and her family must make her recovery their top priority. Just be patient and we will see and hear from her soon enough.

Thanks for the information milemark...that is wonderful news! smile.gif

If I were in the hospital recovering from injuries, I can't think of anything that would lift my spirits faster than if Dale Jarrett, Jeff Gordon, Bill Elliott, Michael Waltrip, or some of my other favorite Winston Cup drivers (and most of them are my favorites) dropped by to visit smile.gif

The family of PFC Lynch owes us nothing but we owe them a thanks that words can never express. I can only imagine the horror of first hearing your daughter is missing in action. Not knowing is she alive and missing, killed or captured. I know it broke my moms heart when my brother was injured in a car accident and I can understand how hard it must have been for her brother and sister to see their sibling with tubes and casts and stuff stuck in her. It must tore the heart of her parents. We owe that family alot and the families of all the soldiers so much. We are going to hear rumors about what happened and stuff like that. Never believe a rumor until it is a fact. I forget who told me that but that is what I believe. I know KFOXTV in El Paso is working on a documentary on the ambush and given time we will know the truth. In the meantime we need to give PFC Lynch the time and space to cope with everything that happened. She lost her bestfriend, her fellow comrades, her freedom, almost her life. That has to affect anyone. I know how tight you get in the Army with your buddies. To lose one feels like losing a member of the family. She is a fighter and besides giving her a medal I think we should give her parents a medal for raising 3 patriots. They did a remarkable job in raising PFC Lynch into the fighter that she is. If anyone speaks to the parents give them a snap salute for they deserve it.

As a navy veteran, and the father of 3 daughters, I understand the secrecy, or as I prefer to call it, The cacoon that surrounds Jessica. Unless we have seen her medical charts we dont know the extent of her injuries iether physically, or mentally. We don't know how badly she was tortured. Was she forced to watch her friends and comrades in arms be totured, raped, and executed? was she violated? These are questions that no one on here has the right to know. Think about the fact that hopefully Jessie has 50-75 years of a wholesome life to lead. She does not need to be hounded by people perversely always wanting to know what crimes were comitted against her by the iraqis. Now as far as her physical wounds, legs, arm, back, I think it is important to know whether those occured before or after she was captured. I'm sure that as is possible that information will be available to the public. Please think of how you would want Jessie treated by the media and others if she was your family member, or girlfriend.

There is an article online about the Nascar drivers' visit to Walter Reed.
