A local rock band will play a benefit concert to help the family of Sgt. Nicholas Tomko, a local soldier who was killed in action in Iraq. The band Zipper Stitch will perform Friday at 3B's nightclub on Main Street in Zelienople. The show starts at 9 p.m.
People attending the show are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for Tomko's son, Ethan, who will be 3 years old Dec. 23. Donations will be collected throughout the evening for Tomko's family. Nicholas Tomko lived most recently in McKees Rocks, but also lived in Butler County and in Hampton.
Tomko, 24, was a military police sergeant and a member of the 307th Military Police Company of the Army Reserve in New Kensington, Westmoreland County. He died Nov. 9 when his convoy was attacked in the streets of Baghdad
