Seems Jessica had an off day from school; she was invited to Heinz Field in Pittsburgh by the Steelers for a "Heroes at Heinz Field" day, where vets from Iraq and Afghanistan got to meet some members of the team, try some football skills, and get autographs of team members. The Steelers and a number of other NFL Teams arrange such visits through the VA.

Here's two links to the story, with more probably to follow as the Pittsburgh press:

Thanks for the post. I think this was great. I wish more sports teams would do this

Here's another link to the story, and a couple of pics of Jessica on the site in their photo gallery:

The player who was most taken with Jessica's story was kicker Jeff Reed.

I think it's wonderful that the Steelers took the opportunity to honor those who have served and were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. Seems like Jessica had a great time being on the playing field, spending some time with the players and fellow veterans, and even tossing around the football for a short time.

The Red Sox did something like that back in 2004 which they had their miracle come-from-behind win for their first world series win since 1918. Wounded vets from Iraq and Afghanistan carried the trophies down and were there with the players. But it was nice to see this too. Thanks for posting it.
