Lynch is now a mother and is in college.

NEW YORK -- Jessica Lynch, the former Army private from West Virginia, who made international news when she was captured and then rescued in Iraq, in 2003, appeared on NBC's "Today Show", Monday morning.
The interview with Lynch, kicked off the show's "Buzziest Stories of the Decade" segment.

Lynch, from Wirt County, was only 19 when she was captured and suffered a fractured spine, nerve damage and a broken arm, leg and foot.

After her return to the U.S., there was controversy over whether the government made up details of Lynch's ordeal to help sell the war in Iraq to the public.

During Monday's interview, Lynch said that her medical problems have improved over the years, but that she still faces surgeries on her right leg and foot. She also said that she has no feeling in her left foot, making it hard to walk and lift things.

Lynch is now a mother. Her two-year-old daughter Dakota Ann, was born in 2007. Dakota is named in honor of her friend and comrade Lori Ann Piestewa, who was killed in Iraq during Lynch's capture.

She stays in touch with Piestewa's family and sees her two children at least twice a year, she said.

Lynch is now a junior in college, majoring in elementary education and hopes to become an elementary school teacher.

On the topic of the false stories about her capture, Lynch said she holds no grudge against the military and that she feels everyone should support the military personnel still serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Lynch still gets hate mail, which she quickly shreds, she said.

She wants to be remembered by the American public as a good mother and a symbol of hope, she told host Merideth Vieira.

I saw the video online at the Today Show's site. She's still the same Jessica we all saw and remember. Even if she and Wes have a handful in little Dakota.
Treat everyone you meet with kindness and respect, but always have ready a plan to kill them.

I saw the interview online as well. Jessica was well spoken as usual. It is good to see that she is doing well.
