Dr. Johnstone attended the Gator Bowl on New Year’s Day in Jacksonville, Florida. He was there to direct the WVU Health Sciences Education Course the day before the bowl game. Johnstone presented lectures on healthcare advances and airway management. Everything went well, and all physicians, nurses, dentists, and pharmacists who attended earned continuing educational credits. Attendees rated the course highly. Also attending the bowl game was Jessica Lynch, West Virginia’s Citizen of the Year. Lynch rode in the bowl parade and oversaw the toss of the coin before the game. Lynch and Johnstone reminisced about the treatment of her war wounds at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She still has the WVU flag that Johnstone gave her there. She posed for a picture with Johnstone and his daughter Stephanie.
