Just a point id like to make regarding the next few weeks/months. Since Jessica was rescued the media attention on her has been huge and consequently she has received huge support from the public. However if media interest fades as it undoubtably will the vast majority of people will also forget. Jessica faces a long battle for recovery and as other posters here have said any encouragement anyone can offer can only be good. This is even more important as weeks pass and the flood of cards and gifts slows. So please dont forget her in the weeks and months to come and keep the cards and encouraging words flowing until she is back on her feet and home.

While it may be true that the current notoriety of JL will someday fade, I believe that to many people she will never be forgotten.

Publishers and producers have acknowledged that the general public's interest in JL has a certain time to run its course and that's why they are so eager to move on making movies and writing books about her experience. How many heroes of the first Gulf War can you name? Can you remember any of the heroes of 911? How about who won the last Super Bowl or World Series?

To some, those questions are easy to answer. That's because those events meant something to them. They either had a personal tie to the event and/or the event made a significant impact on them. While most of us can't give names tied to certain events, we can remember the event itself. I think that is what will happen with Jessica Lynch, unless she pursues a path that keeps her in the public eye. Otherwise, most people will remember Jessica as "that young girl who got captured by the Iraqis and was rescued."

But to some, and I'll gladly stand in front of the line, she'll always be remembered not only by her circumstances, but will also be remembered by her valor, by her bravery, by her innocence, and by her name. That's because she has made a significant impact on me emotionally and spiritually.

That's why I created a website....as long as I'm alive and have internet service, Jessica and her family will know a humble family in Georgia is proud of her, praying for her, and cares.

I hope and pray the good Lord will allow it to remain online so Jessica can one day show it to her husband, the schoolchildren she teaches, and her own children. smile.gif

Having known Jessi's parents and living 10 minutes from Wirt County - for me - the respect, admiration, pride, love and well-wishes for Jessi will not fade. I will be just as proud of her twenty years from now as I am today.

I agree with Bakewell. The American people have a very short attention span, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially in this case.

If you have been watching the news, you will have noticed that Jessica vanished from the media as quickly as she entered it, with the popular focus being on the Laci Peterson murder case. She will re-emerge from time to time in the near future, as her recovery progresses and NBC displays that TV movie they're talking about. But ultimately, Jessica will disappear.

Remember Elizabeth Smart?
