It's amazing that so many people still have such great support for soldiers. When we're over there we know that we have no mission and support for the war in general is low. The American people have seperated the war from the soldiers which is phenomenal. The majority of us in the military hate the war as well and we find it hard to explain to our soldiers why we're they're and the fact that us sacrificing our lives has absolutely no bearing to the safety of our country or even the capture of Osama Bin Laden, who was the reason all us troops were called up in the first place....

One bit of advice: Soldiers don't like to be called heroes. Wer'e all out here just doing our jobs. Wer'e not necessarily fighting for our Country or even our government as much as we are for the guy standing next to us. When it comes down to it, we are all by ourselves out there with nothing but the guy next to us and the weapons our taxpayers have afforded us. We do what we do because of our dedication to that person.

I can understand how Soldiers do not like to be called Hero's as I was in the US Air Force and I remember talking to others that did serve during war time and they just considered it their job. Serveral years ago I ran the Rescue Squad responding to car accidents and fires and I still didn't like being called a Hero. But we know that we have many Soldiers that are indeed Hero's.

Jessica has made it very clear in public that she doesn't consider herself a hero, but we do. We are not forgetting about all the other soldiers that have and/or are fighting in a war we do not understand either and we do support them. Due to financial reasons I haven't been able to get a couple of planned sites up and running, but I will be starting to work on 2 other sites very soon for Lori Ann Piestewa and for Americas Bravest. The Americas Bravest (americasbravest.us) site will list Soldiers from all branches that have served in war that we can find information on as well as Police and Firefighters as they too are hero's.

Hello, there.
I don't know what CPTANDYUSA said that the webmaster saw fit to delete, but I suspect that it had to do with the mistaken idea that Jessica Lynch was nothing more than a truck wreck victim who did nothing honorable to deserve the attention that she got. It is unfortunate that the Pentagon chose to portray Jessi that way in their official report because of politics taking precendence over truth. Make no mistake, Jessica Lynch did resist her captors and paid a terrible price for doing so. At least the dead are at peace and suffer no longer. Jessi will have to live the rest of her life with the pain, injuries and nightmares of what was done to her at the hands of her captors....at the hands of our enemies. It shouldn't take someone spending over three years of investigation to learn the truth of what happened to know the truth of what happened. The "official Pentagon story" can be easily debunked if someone doesn't have a bias against anyone who got fifteen minutes of fame who didn't want it in the first place like Jessi or the fact that she is a woman. It is terribly unfortunate that Jessi has been forbidden to tell what really happened in spite of her wish to do so.

By definition a hero is someone....an individual who does something heroic; an individual who is inspiring to others. A person doesn't have to "leap tall buildings in a single bound"....move mountains, or save a life to be seen by others as heroic or a hero.

For example, the young daughter of one of my best friends is a leukemia patient. Summer is only nine years old, but she's inspired me and everyone she meets; inspires us with her courage, her faith, and with that bright smile which never leaves her face. She's a precious little girl, and by any standards....Summer is a hero to me. She never lets the cancer get her down.....nor the painful, very difficult treatment (chemotherapy/ lost her hair; spinal taps; weekly blood tests); she never feels sorry for herself....never says "why me"?.....but instead always has a smile on her face.

In fact, as I've spent time visiting Summer and her family in the childrens hospital since her diagnosis a year ago, I've found that courage, faith, grace, and a positive attitude are common traits among young cancer patients. I go visit them in the hospital to encourage and inspire them.....and instead I'm the guy who leaves inspired and in awe of their courage. That's why children, teens, and young adults fighting cancer are such heroes to me.

Jessica Lynch is a hero to me, and will be forever......NOT because she did great things on the battlefield, but instead because she SURVIVED; because she has displayed such tremendous courage in recovering from her injuries; as she learned to walk again.....because she possesses a fighting spirit, faith, grace and charm which inspires myself and most everyone she meets. Jessica is an inspiration to others.....and therefore is a hero (whether she chooses to consider herself one or not). She also served her country during time of war on foreign soil.......was critically injured doing so, and held as a prisoner of war. While she didn't "fight to the death" against a hostile enemy as early media reports falsely reported, Jessica did her job and paid a very steep price for doing so (as anyone who heard her testimony before Congress on CNN heard this morning; four years later, her left leg is still has no feeling below the knee......she'll suffer from those injuries the rest of her life).

I consider everyone who serves their country in the military as heroic (regardless of their role).....especially those who served during time of war. I consider those who are wounded while serving their country as greater heroes, and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice (KIA) our greatest heroes. That is reason enough (her military service, POW status, and being critically wounded) for me to call Jessica heroic......but the inspiration she's shown (inner strength; positive attitude; drive/ moxie) since her rescue on the long road to recovery, and the grace, class, kindness, and integrity she's displayed in interviews and speaking engagements since also qualifies Jessica as a most inspirational and heroic young woman.

Sincerely,
Perry L. Williams
