Friends, I'd really appreciate your prayers on my behalf. Two weeks ago during a routine checkup, blood tests revealed a problem with my kidneys. Subsequent ultrasound and MRI both confirmed there's a tumor located on my right kidney. The good news is that it's small and localized and from what my kidney specialist says, we've caught it very, very early. The MRI summary indicated there's a 60% chance that it's cancer, but my doctors have scheduled a CT scan next Tuesday to confirm before doing a biopsy and/ or surgery (followed by radiation and possibly chemotherapy).

The good news is IF it's cancer.... my doctors feel it's very curable (over 95% odds of survival); the bad......if the tumor is malignant, I may well lose my right kidney. sad.gif To say I'm worried is an understatement. I have a very strong faith in God, and am trusting him with faith to completely heal me; that the tumor isn't cancer.

Please pray for me and that God heals this/ that the tumor isn't malignant. I'm only 46 years old....the thought of possibly losing my kidney to cancer is terrifying.

Thanks and may God bless you,

My prayers are with you Perry, as someone that went through the experience of someone having Lung Cancer and the treatment I have
to say request a PET scan if your insurance covers it. MRI's and CT scans are nice, but a PET Scan will show anything that is Cancer.

Radiation and Chemotherapy can be a scary thing, but watching my mother go through it wasn't as bad as we all thought. One BIG Rule
is Always tell your Doctors what is going on, even if it seems small tell them. My mother's Biggest mistake besides continuing to smoke was not telling the doctors at the cancer center what was going on, had she it mabe she would still be here today.

Cancer is no longer a death sentance, it's more of a bump in the road that no one wants to hit but it's life. I know this will sound bad, but there are times I wish I had cancer instead of MS, atleast with cancer there is a very good chance of a cure but with MS I do not think there will be a cure in my lifetime.

I wish you well my friend.

Thanks for the kind words Scott! Unfortunately, the CT scan did reveal my kidney tumor is cancerous ("renal cell carcinoma"). I'm meeting the surgeon tomorrow afternoon (Dr Townsend) to learn about the surgical procedure he will perform, how to prepare myself (I've been very blessed; haven't been admitted to the hospital since I was 8 years old, so this is all new to me), and hopefully set a date for my hospitalization and surgery. Thankfully, all indications are still that we caught this very early.......and hoping my doctor's very high expectations of me being cured are correct (and that I won't need chemo or radiation).

Scott, I wish you the very best in your battle against MS. One of my sister's in-laws is bravely fighting the same disease......Marnie is my hero, and so are you. I'm praying for you with all my heart.....and praying for a cure; it's my wish upon a star....tonight and every night!

Again, many thanks! God bless you!!
Perry

JetMaxx, Good Luck, man when you do go under the knife. Knock on wood that this surgery is all you need re: treatment. You have my best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery.

Thanks! I underwent surgery at Kennestone hospital in Marietta, Georgia on July 16th. Fortunately, the malignant tumor was very small (3.7 cm) and localized; the bad news is it was in a very bad location over an artery, requiring the surgeon to remove my right kidney to avoid dangerous complications (internal bleeding, etc). After several tough, painful days in the hospital (my first hospitalization since age 9), I was discharged last Sunday and have made excellent progress since. Today the staples were removed from my three small incisions (laparascopic procedure), and I feel much stronger and energetic than just a few days ago; also much less pain. The cancer was completely removed utilizing surgery, and was very localized; my surgeon and oncologist both give me a better than 95% chance of being cured with surgery alone; will be monitored closely the next 5 or 6 years (ultrasound, CT scan) to make sure no cancer comes back anywhere.

I do have some concerns about living with only one kidney due to renal issues related to past high blood pressure, but am trusting in God to bless and protect me as he's done throughout this journey. Thanks for your support and prayers....they really have blessed me and I am very grateful to each of you. smile.gif

Thanks and may God bless you!

Hey JetMaxx, that's good news! Hopefully that will be that and the surgeon got it all and that you've beaten the Big C.
